Jadi Dolphin ini memang berada dalam kelas segmen-B sebenar – ia hanya 55 mm lebih pendek dari Honda Metropolis Hatchback, tapi jarak rodanya adalah 100 mm lebih jauh dan 22 mm lebih lebar dari mannequin petrol jenama Jepun itu.

Namun disebabkan lantai Dolphin ini adalah jauh lebih ‘tebal’ dari kereta dengan enjin pembakaran dalam kerana keseluruhan lantainya merupakan bateri untuk kereta ini, ia secara tidak langsung menyebabkan EV segmen-B ini juga perlu direka tinggi, iaitu 82 mm lebih tinggi dari Metropolis Hactchback.

BYD turut menawarkan pilihan warna badan yang funky untuk Dolphin. Ketika dilancarkan, mannequin Dynamic hadir dengan skema tona tunggal dengan warna-warna pastel seperti Sand White dan City Gray. Namun ketika sesi pandu uji ini kami diberikan varian Dynamic dengan warna ungu.

Begitu juga dengan varian Premium, ketika dilancarkan ia ditawarkan dengan warna dua tona iaitu Surf Blue dengan bumbung dan bonet hadapan City Gray, Atlantis Gray dengan bumbung dan bonet Delan Black, serta Ski White dengan bumbung depan dan bonet City Gray.

Manakala ketika sesi pandu uji ini, varian Premium tampil dengan warna badan merah jambu metalik bersama bumbung dan bonet depan City Gray.

Nilai funky ini bukan hanya tampil pada bahagian luaran, ia juga turut diterapkan pada bahagian kabin. Bagi warna badan City Gray dan ungu, bahagian kabinnya diberikan tema warna gabungan hitam dan kelabu. Sementara warna badan Sand White pula menerima kabin berwarna coklat dan hitam.

Varian Premium pula lebih ‘meriah’ di mana mannequin dengan warna badan Atlantis Gray dan Ski White menerima kabin kelabu dan hitam, manakala mannequin dengan warna badan Surf Blue menerima kabin biru dan hitam.

Unit dengan warna merah jambu metalik yang kami pandu kali ini nampaknya benar-benar hanya sesuai untuk wanita kerana diberikan kabin dengan warna ungu, kelabu dan Rose Gold. Mujur kami pandu secara berkumpulan. Jika kereta ini dipandu penulis secara bersendirian, entah apa orang mengata.

Dari segi rekaan dalaman, Dolphin menampilkan gaya lain dari yang lain jika anda bandingkan dengan model-model hatchback segmen-B konvensional. Ia diberikan tempat duduk bucket yang agak sporty tetapi selesa, dibalut dengan kulit ‘vegan’ (atau bahasa mudahnya kulit sintetik atau kulit palsu) yang lembut seakan kulit Nappa untuk kedua-dua varian.

Roda stereng rata di bawah pada Dolphin ini agak menarik dengan diameter tidak terlalu besar dan tidak terlalu kecil bersama saiz genggaman yang agak ‘sedap-sedap’. Pemandu dapat memantau segala maklumat pemanduan menerusi panel instrumen digital penuh bersaiz lima-inci.

Skrin instrumen tersebut memang agak kecil, namun bagi penulis ia sudah cukup untuk memberikan segala maklumat yang diperlukan, malah nampak bergaya kerana seakan paparan instrumen kereta lumba. Manakala untuk ‘masuk gear’ D atau R, tiada tombol disediakan dan ia digantikan dengan suis yang diletak bersama suis-suis lain seperti mod pemanduan, pendingin hawa, larasan bunyi audio dan sebagainya di bahagian konsol tengah.

Walaupun banyak rekaan pelik yang tiada pada kereta biasa, BYD Dolphin ini hadir dengan perincian kabin yang begitu ergonomik. Ruang storan misalnya, anda boleh letak barang-barang yang mudah untuk anda capai misalnya kad contact & go atau telefon bimbit di ruang di bawah skrin infotainmen.

Manakala untuk mengecas telefon pintar, ada pad pengecas tanpa wayar (hanya untuk varian Premium) yang diletak pada perehat tangan, atau pada ruang storan bawah konsol tengah yang turut mempunyai slot USB biasa dan USB Sort C jika anda perlu mengecas menggunakan kabel. Malah bahagian tersebut turut mempunyai slot kad mikro SD untuk enter sistem infotainment dan juga port kuasa 12V.

Seperti yang disebut tadi, bateri untuk Dolphin ini diletak pada sepenuhnya bahagian lantai. Jadi lantai hatchback ini adalah rata sepenuhnya bukan sahaja membolehkan penumpang belakang lebih mudah untuk bergerak dari kiri ke kanan atau sebaliknya, malah ia turut membolehkan satu lagi ruang storan yang agak besar diberikan tersorok di bawah konsol perehat tangan.

Dengan lantai yang tinggi ini juga menjadikan posisi pemanduan seperti memandu sebuah SUV walaupun tempat duduk pemandu sudah direndahkan dengan kedudukan kaki hampir menjulur kehadapan.

Untuk sistem infotainmen, kedua-dua varian Dolphin dilengkapi dengan skrin sesentuh gergasi bersaiz 12.8-inci. Skrin berkenaan benar-benar diposisikan dalam keadaan terapung, dan kalau anda rasa tak suka dengan skrin yang lebar, ia boleh dipusingkan 90 darjah bagi memberikan paparan secara potret (menegak) dengan hanya satu sentuhan.

Menurut BYD, dengan satu cas penuh bateri ini boleh memberikan jarak gerak sejauh 490 km mengikut ujian kitaran NEDC. Ketika penulis menerima kereta ini pula, bateri berada pada tahap cas 76% dengan baki jarak gerak sejauh 347 km.

Apabila tiba semula di Plaza Arkadia dengan jarak perjalanan 52 km, kadar cas bateri menurun sehingga 61% dengan baki jarak gerak 298 km. Untuk penulis, jarak gerak yang ditawarkan tak kira untuk mana-mana varian sudah cukup untuk kegunaan dalam bandar seperti untuk bergerak ke tempat kerja, menghantar anak ke sekolah, ke surau dan sebagainya kerana satu cas penuh baterinya memberikan jarak gerak lebih kurang sama dengan satu tangki petrol Perodua Myvi.
